One time, in band camp...

Well we didn't actually meet at band camp, but we did meet freshman year at Johns Hopkins University, where we were both members of the Johns Hopkins University Band. Scott plays clarinet, and Meghna plays percussion, so Meghna spent a lot of time checking out the back of Scott's head during rehearsals. Coincidentally, Meghna and Scott both lived on the 5th floor of McCoy sophomore year, and the 10th floor of the Carlyle junior and senior year. Through band parties, football and lacrosse games, (and our shared love of baseball) we spent more time together as friends. Romance blossomed at the beginning of junior year. In 2000, we both graduated from Hopkins; Meghna with a degree in Psychology, and Scott with a degree in Computer Science.

We spent a year long distance while Meghna attended Teachers College Columbia University for her master's degree. In 2001, Meghna moved back to Maryland to begin a teaching career. Meghna teaches 4th grade at Broad Acres Elementary School in Montgomery County. Scott is a software engineer at Solipsys, a division of Raytheon.

The Proposal

We got engaged on May 20, 2004, when Scott surprised Meghna with flowers and gifts and of course-- the RING! Meghna had had a particularly difficult week at school, and Scott told her he had gotten her something to make her feel better. Meghna believed this when he presented her with a dozen beautiful red roses, but started to get suspicious when Scott gave her a gift bag with a map of Italy and a book on how to raise the perfect puppy. Meghna remembered that she and Scott had frequently talked about getting a puppy and traveling to Italy once they were married. It was then Scott proposed. Meghna, of course, said YES!
